California DAR volunteering

California Daughters share a common bond of ancestry and are proud of their heritage and the role their ancestors played in establishing our great country. California Daughters work tirelessly to perpetuate their memory and spirit by promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Below are just a few examples of our work in our communities:

  • Outstanding California students are recognized with awards and DAR scholarships for academic excellence, good citizenship, and knowledge of American history.
  • Outstanding California citizens are recognized through Community Service Awards, Outstanding Teacher of American History Award, Junior Reserve Officer Corps (JROTC) Medals, Americanism Awards, and NSDAR Medals of Honor.
  • Ongoing genealogical and historic research is documented and preserved for future generations.
  • DAR speakers are available to make presentations to your group or organization.
  • California Daughters support American veterans and Veterans Administration (VA) institutions throughout the state by offering many hours of volunteer service and providing financial support. Additionally, care packages, phone cards, letters, and cards are sent to servicemen and servicewomen abroad, in support of “DAR Project Patriot.”
  • Several DAR schools are supported by California Daughters through the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund that provides medical aid, general financial assistance, and scholarships.
  • California has placed markers on historic trails and properties across California since the early 1900s.
  • The state headquarters of California DAR is a unique 4,200 square foot craftsman-style home which contains beamed ceilings, extensive use of San Gabriel River rock, natural wood paneling, leaded glass and hand-made hardware and fixtures designed specifically for the home. The home was purchased from a 10th generation American, successful businessman and citrus rancher, who served on the first city council of Glendora in 1911. The California State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, purchased its headquarters in Glendora, California, in 1982.
